Accessibility

The House builds to WCAG 2.2 Level AA. This page states plainly what works, what does not yet, and where to write.

In effect from

A private house should be enterable by everyone it invites. This page says what has been done, and — more usefully — what has not.

The standard

This site is built to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA.

What has been done

  • Every control can be reached and operated from the keyboard alone, with a visible focus ring.
  • A skip link is the first focusable element on the page, and the navigation and enquiry panels are native dialogs that trap focus and close on Escape.
  • Text meets or exceeds the contrast the guideline requires, and headings describe structure rather than appearance.
  • Images that carry meaning have alternative text; decorative images are hidden from assistive technology.
  • The form labels every field, marks what is optional, and reports errors and success as text.
  • Honouring “reduce motion” in your operating system removes the pinned opening, replaces the film of the Creation with a single still frame — the film is then never downloaded at all — stops the concierge pulse, and lets the page be read as a plain document.
  • Nothing is conveyed by colour alone, and no content flashes.

Known limitations

  • The opening is a short film of the Creation, which loops silently. It is decorative — the text beside it carries the whole meaning — it can be stopped at any time from the control beside it, and it is replaced by a still frame under reduced motion.
  • Some photography on this site is illustrative rather than a record of a specific Creation. It is captioned, but the caption is editorial rather than a substitute description.
  • The site is published in English only.
